Now that we have counted down our favourite grips its time to look at bar tape. Our personal favourite still remains the Cinelli cork tape that they pioneered back in 1983.
In 1983 Antonio Colombo invented an entirely new “feeling” in the history of cycling bartape: Cinelli Original Cork Ribbon. Upon its release this grippy, spongey but durable and ultralight mix of EVA and natural cork immediately rendered bar tapes of the day (made from cotton or vinyl) technologically null. Within the space of a few short years the tape became an industry standard, spontaneously adopted by professional and amateur riders across the globe and copied (poorly) by every major cycling brand in the world.
Yet for the last couple of years, Cinelli has been hard to find in India. So here's what's available and what it is good for in order of budget.
Budget Pick - SRAM supercockcork :)
I love the tight stretch that I am able to get when I wrapped the handle bars with this SRAM tape. The tape has an adhesive that keeps the wrap tight while you wind and gives adhesion to the next layer. Once finished, this tape looks amazingly professional and the comfort is outstanding. This tape gives a very cushiony grip and is very anti-slip. This wrap also came with an extra palm cushion to wrap into the grip, but I would recommend using the gel pads that can be purchased for additional padding. You also get a strip of finishing tape and bar ends.

Mid-range Pick -Lizard Skins DSP
Comes in 2.5mm (road racing) and 3.2mm (gravel and cobbles) width. For me, the extra level of shock absorption afforded by the 3.2mm tape is noticeable enough to make it my preferred option. The DSP feels strangely sort of sticky, sticky enough to give you an excellent grip. If you are used to cork tape it can feel a little strange. Some riders love it, others hate it. When the rain rain really begins to fall, this is when you will really appreciate that extra level of grip. The tape gives you confidence that your hands are going to stay firmly where you place them, instead of sliding about.

Top of the line - Supacaz Silicone Super Sticky Kush
Super Sticky Kush is the bar tape of choice for 3x World Champion Peter Sagan. Fusing performance and style, Supacaz delivers the only bar tape worth dreaming about. We boldly claim that Super Sticky Kush is the best bar tape ever. Silicone Gel dampens and eliminates all vibrations for the smoothest ride.
It may be pricey, but the expense can be justified considering the quality of not only the bar tape but the plugs and finishing tape. It feels great to the touch, wraps well and there is a huge range of colours.
